Labor

2008, Collaborative performance/ installation

Labor was an installation project created in collaboration with Wreckio Ensemble in conjunction with their original theatrical performance The Ladies Aide Society Invites You to a Poverty Party to Benefit the Society for Ethical Art and Culture, produced in New York and Dublin in the summer of 2008. Created in Chashama’s storefront theatre on 42nd street during a six-week residency, transparency of process and “the cost of art” were central themes to Ladies’ Aide. My piece consisted of the cumulative to-do lists of all of the members of Wreckio Ensemble, added to the window at each rehearsal. By the time of the performance, the entire window was covered with notes about grant applications, personal errands, and deadlines for day jobs, making visible the behind-the-scenes work of art making.
